Education Specialist

The Education Specialist's primary purpose is to support the organization in development of content, training and technical assistance for contracted services with various constituents. The Education Specialist is also involved in providing quality professional development and technical assistance services, shaping programming, and promoting the organization's work locally and nationally. Time will also be spent on outreach to secure new clients and maintaining relationships with existing clients, as needed.  Staff members work in a team-based environment and share responsibility for various projects, frequently dedicating time to brainstorming and collaborative problem-solving.  This position requires national travel, depending on client needs. This position requires up to 50% national travel.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create, edit, and assess content for web-based learning portal and create and revise training sessions and materials
  • Plan and guide the development and production of new trainings, services, tools and materials, aligned with organization mission, goals and plans for business development.
  • Plan and deliver professional learning training and/or technical assistance to out-of-school time and school-day teaching staff
  • Collaborate with lead project partners and contribute to planning, development, and management of Foundations' involvement in various projects.
  • Contribute to ancillary tasks such as newsletters, webinars, focus groups, conferences, meetings, etc.
  • Research, review, and screen potential grant opportunities for the organization.
  • Conduct outreach to secure new clients and maintain relationships with existing clients as needed.



  • Experience writing district or school-level curriculum and/or creating curricular-based tools and resources
  • Highly organized with the ability to work effectively under pressure and produce a high-quality work product within tight time constraints
  • Experience designing and facilitating trainings and/or working with adults in a learning environment, in the classroom and/or in an online setting required
  • Advanced understanding of adult learning principles
  • A minimum of  2 consecutive full academic years of professional teaching experience
  • A minimum of 1 full academic year of professional administrative experience in a K-12 setting
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required, Master's degree preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong writing ability and experience in public speaking and presentations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications as well as basic database management skills
  • Available to travel, both locally and nationally


  • 5 years of experience working with children and youth (preferably in a low-income community) in out-of-school time programs and 21st Century Community Learning Centers
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and experience with uses of technology as used and applied in a K-12 setting
  • Demonstrated ability in grant writing, funder development, or business development, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Creativity and flexibility in planning and problem solving
