Jennifer Kobrin

Director, Center for Afterschool and Expanded Learning

Jennifer Kobrin provides professional development and technical assistance for schools, afterschool programs, and community-based organizations, with a focus on language and literacy. She believes multilingualism is a powerful asset, and is committed to ensuring that learners of English in the United States are successful in school and beyond.

An experienced educator, trainer, and program evaluator, Jennifer works with school systems nationwide to improve the quality of their literacy and English as a Second Language programming. She provides expert analysis and recommendations to districts regarding curriculum and teaching methods. Through webinars offered by the Center for Afterschool and Expanded Learning, she also shares professional development tools that educators can use in their everyday work.

Her frequent interactions in the field keep Jennifer current with the distinct challenges and opportunities facing administrators, educators, students, and parents. Jennifer channels this insight into Foundations' popular Language & Literacy for All blog – a valued resource for educators across the U.S. She also co-authored More Than Just Talk: Everyday English Language Teaching, a training publication designed to bolster the efforts of educators in all settings.

Jennifer earned her Master's degree in Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, and served a two-year research fellowship with Save the Children to conduct an evaluation of an early childhood program in Central America. She has taught English in a variety of settings, including a public elementary school in Costa Rica, adult immigrants in Harlem, and young adults at the college level. Fluent in Spanish, Jennifer has lived in Spain, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.
