KidZone Philadelphia is a ten-year initiative to engage communities
across Philadelphia to work together now to ensure success across
future generations, beginning in Northwest Philadelphia. State
Representative Dwight Evans and Foundations’ CEO Rhonda H. Lauer co-chair the KidZone
Philadelphia Leadership Council, which includes the leaders of The
Reinvestment Fund, Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, the United
Way of SEPA, Germantown Settlement, and Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation.
KidZone will undertake an integrated
set of initiatives in Education, Employment, and Civic Engagement.
The Education initiatives will ensure that children will smoothly
transition to Kindergarten, healthy and ready to learn. The Employment
initiatives will ensure that youth will smoothly transition to
college or a “living
wage” job,
ready to earn. The Civic Engagement initiatives will support parents
and the community to fully engage in healthy child, youth, and family
development and school success.

By age 19, only 24% of young adults are enrolled in college or employed
at a "living wage." Our new KidZone Philadelphia initiative aims to
