Technology is Power After-school Seminar

Certified Potential

Through the Technology Is Power Seminar (TIPS) series, Foundations is offering youth in Northwest Philadelphia training that can change their lives and broaden their horizons.

Afterschool computer clinics prepare 11th and 12th graders at Martin Luther King High School with technology skills they need to transition seamlessly to post-secondary studies or compete immediately in the job market. In our pilot seminar, students work to become Microsoft Certified Application Specialists—a prerequisite for many careers that will give students a distinct advantage.  Future TIP Seminars will include GIS mapping software training as well as graphic design courses.

Because students who participate in this program forgo opportunities to make money in afterschool jobs, Foundations rewards those who pass their certification exams with coupons to pay for all senior fees, including the prom, senior trips, and caps and gowns.
